vocal jazz ~ a cappella ~ showchoir ~ gospel
Arlie taught at the University of Calgary for nearly a decade where, under her direction, the vocal jazz choir at U of C grew into two fully-voiced a cappella ensembles performing both jazz and popular styles. Her Vocal Jazz Ensembles enjoyed increasingly wide exposure, earning regional and national acclaim.
Arlie's top ensemble, “Inner Voices,” won First Prize in the CBC Radio National Competition for Choirs, competing live on radio broadcast across the county. Her groups enjoyed accolades from other festivals, and was also awarded the Gold Medal standard at the national competition, MusicFest Canada.
Her award-winning ensembles recorded three CDs. Other program highlights have included backing up legendary blues artist Lou Pride. joining country music artist, Paul Brandt, for his nationally-broadcast television special, and performing for the Canadian County Music Association Gospel concerts.
Arlie has a broad background directing show choirs. As an artistic director for the Youth Singers of Calgary - a multi-choir show choir organization with more than 400 singers - she conducted junior high, high school, and college-aged ensembles. She toured her 80-voice choir of high school singers to the Bahamas, New York, Australia and New Zealand.
